Suzanne E. Hiller, PhD
Executive Director/Chair
Suzanne E. Hiller, PhD has worked in the field of education as a practitioner, professor, researcher, and evaluator for three decades. Notably, she was the Teacher Naturalist with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History wherein she designed curriculum with over 36,000 natural specimens. Her research interests center on STEM career motivation and achievement in outdoor programs through initiatives such as citizen science. She has authored books, book chapters, and articles on self-regulation, motivation, and metacognition for students, particularly in outdoor settings.

Deanna Crowe
Vice Chair
Deanna has over 20 years of experience as a leader with a mix of technical IT skills, functional HR and people management skills to provide a holistic approach to system selection, design and implementation.
Her current position is Sr. Manager, Lead Platform Engineer with Capital One supporting Human Resource systems. She has a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Psychology from George Mason University and is a Certified Scrum Product Owner.
Deanna is passionate about family, learning new skills, building high performing teams, collaboration, networking, system design and volunteering with children.

Ravinder Sidhu
Treasurer
Ravinder K Sidhu is a professional with a background in bookkeeping for a decade, an MBA degree, and extensive experience in the education field for 20+ years. Beginning her career in the educational field with a bachelor’s in education, Ravinder honed her skills in management and leadership roles. Ravinder pursued an MBA during her journey in the education field, which equipped her with a deeper understanding of business operations, strategic planning, and leadership. This advanced education allowed Ravinder to seamlessly integrate financial insight with strategic decision-making, enhancing her ability to manage complex financial systems. Through her diverse experiences, Ravinder has demonstrated a commitment to excellence, a strong work ethic, and a dedication to fostering financial stability and growth within the education sector.

Jenny Mischel, PhD
Secretary
Jenny Mischel, PhD is a Professor at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her research interests focus on coping strategies to help youth self-regulate emotions when feeling distressed as well as how to promote positive self-efficacy beliefs. In addition to teaching courses, she finds mentoring undergraduate students to be a rewarding experience. Thus, she collaborates with undergraduate students on studies to explore aspects of social media use, self-regulation, the effectiveness of wellness rooms, and the value in social bonding with others.

John Dahlberg, PhD
Board Member
John Dahlberg is a versatile executive leader from the Human Capital industry and is passionate about helping companies increase the value of their most important asset – their people. He has worked with dozens of Global 2000 companies to drive transformational change at scale including Microsoft, General Motors, Fannie Mae, Federal Express, Coca Cola, The Royal Bank of Canada, Caterpillar, PricewaterhouseCoopers, SAIC, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Los Alamos National Labs. Early in his career, John recognized the strategic value of CRM and through tightly integrating the CRM Tech Stack; Sales, Marketing, and Operational Processes; and Sales Culture, organizations can drive accelerated value. He is an expert at business process engineering and has led CRM initiatives for over 20 years. Recently John has been focused on M&A projects and implemented a data science platform to drive forecasting models based on predictive customer buying behaviors. As a founder of Growth Sigma, John helps companies accelerate enterprise value by adopting an integrated customer experience through elevating the human potential of their teams. John lives with his family in Virginia and is a passionate home chef, gardener, and constant learner.

Laura Dallman, PhD
Board Member
Laura Dallman, PhD, is an international presenter, program organizer, and researcher who specializes in the powerful effects of care and social emotional interaction on human development, learning, and overall well-being. Her work and scholarship span multiple contexts and age ranges.
Laura serves as an adjunct professor at George Mason University’s College of Education and Human Development. She taught elementary school in American public schools and international schools in Russia, Belgium, Haiti, and Georgia. She continues to use those classroom experiences as a touchstone informing her scholarship and programming.

Carley Fisher-Maltese, PhD
Board Member
Carley Fisher-Maltese is an associate professor at George Mason University. She teaches the inclusive early childhood education math and science methods and project-based learning (PBL) courses in the College of Education and Human Development. Her research focuses on engaging diverse students through innovative technologies, such as virtual reality and learning about data science through real life examples using microcomputers and sensors. She also works with the local public school district in the STEAM program designing and implementing STEAM learning opportunities for K6 students, mentoring teachers how to teach STEAM, and leading the garden program and farmer’s market at her neighborhood elementary school. She is a strong advocate of experiential learning opportunities, outdoor learning, and promoting awareness about the importance of pollinators and the role they play in food and economic security.

Yaron Linett
Board Member
Yaron Linett is the Principal Designer of Formal Traditional. He has over 20 years experience in the interior design industry, a B.A. in Sociology from UMCP, and volunteers for the Stephens City Historical Preservation Committee, Scouts BSA, and previously the Fauquier County SPCA. An avid networker, he has deep ties in the DMV area and beyond which he brings to the table for the Blue Swallow Farm Foundation performing community outreach.

Piper Pearson
Board Member
Piper Pearson brings a unique blend of marketing strategy, psychology, and brand development to the board of the Blue Swallow Farm Foundation. While obtaining her Master of Science degree from the University of Southern California, Piper joined the team at Blue Swallow as an intern, researching the impact and benefits of outdoor spaces on teachers. Throughout her career, Piper has worked as a brand marketing and sales specialist, where she honed skills in market analysis, consumer engagement, and brand growth initiatives. Her experience also extends to training and mentoring teams, fostering leadership and growth within the organizations she has worked with. Passionate about making a difference, Piper applies a psychology-informed approach to the non-profit sector, leveraging her expertise to drive mission-oriented marketing initiatives to promote growth, awareness, and community impact at Blue Swallow Farm Foundation.

Reeha Sidhu

Reeha Sidhu has a dynamic professional background, combining experience in bookkeeping with pursuits in real estate and nursing. Starting her career pursuing medical, Reeha has a passion for healthcare and developed a strong foundation with a bachelor’s in science for biology. While studying biology and nursing, Reeha also explored opportunities in real estate, gaining valuable knowledge in property management, real estate transactions, and market analysis. With her career as a bookkeeper, Reeha has developed a strong foundation in financial management. This unique combination of skills reflects her dedication to continuous learning and versatility. Through these varied experiences, Reeha has cultivated a well-rounded skill set, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to excellence across multiple industries.

Linda Black
Linda J. Black, ChFC, GFS, RICP, ChFEBC, has extensive experience counseling clients on portfolio construction, retirement issues, estate planning, and asset protection strategies. She frequently lectures on investment and personal finance topics for various organizations and corporations in her community.
Linda has worked within the financial services industry since 1998 with investment and insurance companies as well as securities firms. As a fiduciary, she has a solid financial foundation and always works with her client’s best interest. Knowing the industry from the inside out gives her a clear advantage in understanding investment products and contracts.

Karlena Glenn
Ms. Glenn is a Disaster Recovery Specialist in the Office of Capital Access at the U.S. Small Business Administration. Prior to joining the SBA, Karlena worked at the U.S. Department of Commerce as a Partnership Specialist.
In addition to her positions in the federal government, she is a small business owner and has served as director of national mobilization at a national educational advocacy non-profit organization, and served as project director for an after-school program for a consortium of 10 Detroit area schools.
Karlena has formerly held positions within Michigan state government, served on nonprofit boards and volunteered her time in educational endeavors.
Karlena earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Marisel Torres-Crespo, PhD
Marisel N. Torres-Crespo, PhD, is the founder and director of MTC Professional Development Services, LLC. She has 21 years of experience offering workshops, training, and professional development to teachers and educational administrators. Torres-Crespo is an Associate Professor of Education in a teacher preparation program at a private 4-year institution. She received a BA and MA degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood Education. She has taught at the college level since 2002 with a collaborative teaching style, making relationships the center of her philosophy. She has been presenting nationally and internationally at educational conferences because of her expertise in early childhood education, computational experiences/coding in the early years, and STEM/STEAM in preschool. Other research interests are early childhood play, socio/emotional development, children’s literature, multiculturalism, and bilingualism in the early childhood education field.
